1) Gibbs family in Chicago
William Gibbs (born 27th March 1847) was the first of my Gibbs ancestors to emigrate to America.
He sailed on the SS Denmark from Liverpool to New York on 17th August 1866 and settled in Chicago where he kept a restaurant.
His brother Henry (born 4th May 1859) joined him in 1880.
On the 30th September 1881, their parents, William & Eliza and their sisters Hannah and Alice sailed on the SS Greece from
Liverpool to New York to join them in Chicago.
More details on the American descendants of William Gibbs are given
here .
Does anyone have any more information on William and Henry
Gibbs and their descendants in America?
a) The photo above had a name of a Bedford photographer on the rear so it is assumed that the house is somewhere in the county.
Judging by the large greenhouses to the left of the house it must be in a park or large estate.
b) The photo above had no identification, but it may be Wierton House near Maidstone, Kent, where William Divers worked.
Again, there are greenhouses to the rear of the house.
